    In August 2015, the participants of LIU met in Lebanon to attend a seminar on how to counter extremism. I was lucky enough to be one of the LIU-participants, and I have fond memories of the summer evenings when we went out into the streets of Beirut.

    The right to freedom of speech is a core value in the Western World. I am sure that for most Danes it is essential for their wellbeing to be free to express opinions and feelings without legal restrictions. The basic freedom rights such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of assembly have been part of Danish society since the 19th century. Freedom of speech is such an integrated part of Danish society that a lot of people take it for granted and use it without much consideration.

    ​Recently a friend asked me: what good is a dialogue project? He was of the opinion that dialogue projects only are valuable for the people actually involved in them. Being a part of LIU, it made me think about the importance of dialogue and its role in the creation of our personal identity.
