LIU and Countering Extremism 2015 Seminar and Graduation

Between 3 and 7 August, 2015 the Leaders for Interreligious Understanding and Counter extremism program held its seminar in Broumana, Lebanon joining 24 leaders from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Denmark to work together on producing tools to counter-extremism.

The seminar ended with a Graduation ceremony of the first batch of 24 Euro-Arab Leaders on Counter-extremism. The graduation ceremony was attended by.E Gabrielle Caccia, Ambassador of the Holy See in Lebanon, H.E Rolf Holmboe, Ambassador of Denmark in Lebanon and the guest speaker Mr. Mohamad Al Sammak,Secretary General of the Christian-Muslim Committee for Dialogue in Lebanon and Co-President of Religions for Peace.

Adyan foundation in partnernship with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social services - Egypt, Danmission - Denmark and Forum for Development ,Culture and Dialogue- Lebanon ans Syria organized a face-to face seminar in Lebanon where the partcipants for this year worked together to develop a tool to counter extremism. The seminar sessions were led by Trainer Gry Guldberg Friis and with the academic support of Dr. Ziad Fahed and Dr. Michael Driessen. The sessions focused on extremism, its sources and challenges.The participants were divided into groups according to their professional interests in order to develop tools to counter-extremism in the fields of Education, Politics, Media and Relgion. The tools develped will be edited and published in a toolkit at a later stage of the program.
